Petrofac secured its first contract award in Oman in 1988 and since then, we have continued to build our portfolio which includes engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects, as well as two major services contracts.

The Sultanate is a strategically important location for us and we support the country’s Omanisation objectives. We are focused on maximising the local supply chain and resources, working hard to be an integral part of the local community to ensure sustainability.

Ongoing projects:

We have secured five new contracts in Oman since 2013, all of which are ongoing:

  • US$50 million operations and maintenance services contract with OOCEP for the Musandam Gas Plant and Abu Tabul onshore development
  • US$2.1 billion EPC contract for improvement to existing as well as the addition of new refining units in the Sohar Industrial Area for ORPIC. This is a 50/50 joint venture with Daelim
  • US$1.2 billion EPC contract by BP for the central processing facility for the Khazzan gas project
  • US$1 billion services contract for PDO’s Rabab Harweel Integrated Project to provide detailed engineering and construction and commissioning management support services on a reimbursable basis and procurement on an incentivised pass-through basis
  • US$900 million EPC contract by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to provide services for the Yibal Khuff field

Completed projects include:

  • Kauther gas field depletion compression project. This project followed the successful commissioning and initial operations of the first Kauther gas plant in 2007, which we built on an EPC basis on behalf of Petroleum Development Oman

Our work in the local community:

The communities in which we operate are very important to us. We have worked with local schools to promote road safety awareness, donated computer equipment, provided first aid equipment and maximised the use of goods and services from local villages.

We also plan to establish a centre of excellence with Takatuf (a subsidiary of Oman Oil Company). Our centre will fast track the development of Omani operators and technicians for the oil and gas industry. This demonstrates our commitment to supporting sustainability, which is a key component of the Government’s Omanisation agenda.

Petrofac has a strong heritage in Oman dating back to 1988. Today, we provide engineering, procurement and project delivery locally, which helps support the development of local service providers and vendors. Our expanded and growing country office in Muscat further demonstrates our intentions to be an integral and sustainable part of the local market.
